The Reign of Freedom is coming

INDIANAPOLIS – The second annual Indiana LinuxFest is scheduled for the middle of April, and will bring the “Reign of Freedom” with it.

The Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel will once again be the host of the event, which will be the weekend of April 13-15, 2012.

The Indiana LinuxFest is about community, information, and friends, and strives to bring the free and open-source software community together for more than just information gathering. It will be a place for people to network, communicate, and have a good time.

In the context of free and open-source software, “free” refers to the freedom to copy, re-use and change the software, rather than change the price of the software. This is an alternative to the traditional “closed source” or “proprietary” software model.

The inaugural Indiana LinuxFest, held back in March, had more than 220 attendees and more than two dozen speakers. This year, organizers are looking to make the event even bigger.

Friday, April 13 will have the professional talks, as well as certification training. Saturday, April 14, will have talks for beginners through experts, as well as vendor booths. The Hackerspace, which was a popular feature last year, will also be Saturday. Sunday, April 15 will have certification testing.

Registration for Indiana LinuxFest is free, but there will be an optional supporter package available, which will include an event t-shirt and boxed lunch on Saturday.

The one thing that would make the 2012 Indiana LinuxFest better... is you.

Speaker proposals are now being accepted. Of particular interest are more professional-level talks for Friday, but talks for all levels of expertise are needed.

Sponsors are also needed. There are a variety of sponsorship levels available, from getting your company name on the event down to getting an insert into the swag bag that is handed out to attendees.

Presenting The Opening Keynote

We are proud to present our opening keynote speaker Tarus Balog of OpenNMS.org and OpenNMS.com. We believe Tarus has presented a very unique keynote speech. Here is the synopsis of his talk.

Why We Can't All Get Along (And Why This Is A Good Thing)

The open source world covers a huge spectrum of people and ideas. On one side you have free software advocates who push for freedom in all software, and on the other side you have commercial business entities who see open source as something to exploit. Most of us live somewhere in the middle.

Recruiting Speakers

We are now recruiting for Speakers. We are looking for the brightest and best the community has to offer in Free and Open source Hardware, Security, Open and Copy Left Hardware, and Free Culture. We want all levels of talks from the beginner to the advanced. Visit the Speaker Application Page to sign up today.
